KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) was India's most prestigious science scholarship program, funded by DST (Department of Science & Technology) and conducted by IISc Bangalore.
Key Facts
- Established in 1999 by the Government of India
- Streams: SA (Class XI), SX (Class XII), SB (1st year BSc)
- Scholarship: ₹5,000–7,000/month + ₹20,000–28,000/year contingency
- Merged into INSPIRE SHE scheme from 2022
- KVPY scholars get priority in IISc, IISERs, NISER admissions
INSPIRE SHE (Current Replacement)
- Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)
- Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) component
- ₹80,000/year for 5 years for top 1% board toppers pursuing BSc/BS/Integrated MSc
- Based on Class XII board performance — no separate exam
